# One-click connect

> Connect Beav to Codex, WorkBuddy, Claude Code, Claude Desktop or Cursor with one click in Beav. Beav updates never need a reconnect.

- Source: https://beav.pro/en/docs/agent/one-click

Checked on 2026-10-11. Applies to Beav versions with one-click connect (not yet released). The source has been reviewed, compiled and unit-tested in a Linux cloud environment, and the local MCP address was called for real there. Connections inside Codex, WorkBuddy, Claude and Cursor still need hands-on verification.

This is now the recommended way to connect. No AI has to run commands and nothing needs to be installed as a plugin: Beav writes itself into your AI tool's MCP settings.

## How to connect

1. Open Beav and click **Connect Agent**. In library mode it is at the bottom of the sidebar; otherwise it is in the account menu at the bottom left.
2. Choose your AI tool: Claude Code, Codex, WorkBuddy, Claude Desktop or Cursor.
3. Click **Connect to …**.
4. Start a new chat in that tool. Claude Desktop needs a full quit and reopen.

To check, ask in the chat: "Call creator\_status and check that Beav is connected."

## What Beav writes

| ------------------------------------------ | --------------------------------------------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------- |
| Codex (including Codex in ChatGPT Desktop) | `[mcp_servers.beav]` in `~/.codex/config.toml` | Local address `http://127.0.0.1:31937/mcp` |
| WorkBuddy | `~/.workbuddy/.mcp.json` (or `mcp.json` if that already exists) | Same |

| Cursor | `~/.cursor/mcp.json` | Same |
| Claude Desktop chat | Claude's `claude_desktop_config.json` | Starts the Beav program (it cannot use an address) |

* Beav only changes the entry named `beav` and leaves the rest of your settings as they are. Before the first change it keeps a `.beav-backup` copy next to the file.
* Each tool gets its own authorization, stored in its settings, which you can disconnect in Beav at any time. Never share the token in those settings with an AI or anyone else.
* If a settings file contains comments (not plain JSON), Beav leaves it alone and asks you to add the entry manually.

## Updates

The AI tool only stores one fixed address, so Beav updates never need a reconnect: tools and capabilities follow the new Beav automatically. When Beav starts, it also checks the entries it wrote and fixes them if the port or program location changed. Entries you removed yourself are not added back.

With an address connection, Beav must be running. With background mode on, closing the window does not disconnect it (see [Install](https://beav.pro/en/docs/getting-started/install)). Claude Desktop starts Beav itself when needed.

## Disconnect

Click **Disconnect** in the same dialog. Beav removes the `beav` entry from that tool's settings and revokes its authorization. Codex and WorkBuddy share the authorization of an earlier plugin installation, so disconnecting also stops the old plugin.

## If you installed the plugin before

Earlier installations through the [plugin](https://beav.pro/en/docs/agent/connect) or `beav extension prepare` keep working. With both the plugin and one-click connect, the tool shows two sets of Beav tools; keep one. Whether Codex still shows the library entry in its sidebar with one-click connect alone has not been tested yet.
